1. Introduction
NavLog ("we", "us", or "our") is a marine voyage logbook application developed by Hakatere Helicopters Ltd. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect your personal information when you use the NavLog mobile application and associated services.
By using NavLog, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.
2. Information We Collect
We collect the following categories of information:
- Account information: Your name and email address, collected when you register for a NavLog account.
- Precise location data: Your GPS coordinates, speed over ground, heading, and position history recorded continuously during active voyages.
- Voyage data: Logs of each voyage including start and end points, route taken, duration, distance, and fuel consumption.
- Passage plans: Planned routes, waypoints, estimated fuel requirements, and departure/arrival details you create within the app.
- Photos and videos: Images and video files you choose to capture or attach from your device camera or photo library when adding media to a voyage log entry. NavLog may access your device's camera and photo library to allow you to capture and attach photos and videos to voyage log entries. Media is stored locally on your device and optionally uploaded to your cloud account.
- Device information: Basic technical data such as device type and operating system version, used to maintain app compatibility.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide, operate, and maintain the NavLog application and your account.
- Record and store your voyage history so it is accessible to you at any time.
- Enable passage planning features including route calculations, time estimates, and fuel projections.
- Sync your data securely across devices linked to your account.
- Send you important service notifications related to your account (not marketing, unless you opt in).
- Diagnose and resolve technical issues with the app.
- Store and display photos and videos you attach to your voyage log entries.
4. Camera and Media Access
NavLog may request access to your device's camera and photo library to allow you to attach photos and videos to voyage log entries.
- Camera and photo library access is only used when you actively choose to add media to a log entry.
- We do not access your camera or photo library in the background.
- You can revoke camera and photo library permissions at any time in your device settings. This will disable the media attachment feature but will not affect any media already uploaded.
- Photos and videos you upload are stored securely in your account and are not shared with third parties.
- You can delete any uploaded media at any time within the app. All media is permanently deleted when you close your account.
5. Location Data
NavLog requests access to your device's precise location. Location tracking is core to the logbook function — without it, the app cannot record your voyage track, speed, or position.
- Location is only recorded when you have an active voyage in progress.
- You can stop location recording at any time by ending your voyage or revoking location permission in your device settings.
- Location data is stored in your account and is not shared with third parties for advertising or profiling purposes.
6. Third-Party Services and Data Storage
NavLog uses Supabase (supabase.com) as its cloud database and storage provider. Your data is stored on Supabase-managed servers. Supabase's privacy policy is available at supabase.com/privacy.
Supabase is a SOC 2 compliant platform providing secure database storage, authentication, and file storage. Your account data, voyage logs, GPS tracks, passage plans, and media files are all stored within Supabase-managed infrastructure.
We implement industry-standard technical and organisational measures to protect your information against unauthorised access, loss, or disclosure. However, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
7. Data Retention
We retain your personal information and voyage data for as long as your account is active. If you close your account, we will delete your personal data within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it by law.
8. Sharing of Information
We do not sell your personal data. We may share data with:
- Service providers: Third-party companies that assist us in operating the app (e.g. cloud hosting, authentication), bound by confidentiality obligations.
- Legal requirements: Where required by law, court order, or to protect the safety of users or the public.
9. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Request correction of inaccurate data.
- Request deletion of your account and associated data.
- Export a copy of your voyage data.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at privacy@hakaterehelicopters.org.
10. Children's Privacy
NavLog is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes via the app or by email. Continued use of NavLog after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
